The general interprofessional strike on October 18, 2022.
On October 18, 2022, tens of thousands of people participated in demonstrations across several cities in France to demand an increase in wages. These gatherings were organized in response to the growing inflation and to defend the right to strike.
According to data provided by the Ministry of the Interior, approximately 107,000 people participated in the wage increase demonstrations nationwide, with 13,000 in Paris. However, the CGT, one of the organizing unions, estimated that the mobilization was even greater, with nearly 300,000 participants.
In Paris, the protesters followed a route that took them from Place Vauban in the 7th arrondissement, along Boulevard Saint-Jacques, Denfert-Rochereau, the boulevards of Montparnasse, and then to Les Invalides.
These demonstrations reflect the concerns of French workers regarding the impact of inflation on their purchasing power and the need to revalue wages in order to cope with this situation. -
